This Saturday I sat down to watch Saturday Night Live. I hadn't watched the show in almost over a year. In fact the last time I recall watching the show was right after the election last year. In the opening segment they opened up with a bit that focused on certain actors and their mothers. Each parent and their child were given 10-20 seconds to say a sentence or two too each other about their daughter or son's contribution to the show or what their opinions on the show were.
As Aidy Bryant explained at the outset, “Normally we open the show with a political sketch which can sometimes be divisive. But since tomorrow is Mother’s Day, we’re going to focus on the one thing we can all celebrate together: moms.” I found this very interesting as I have heard from several of my friends only talk about the skits that had something to do with Trump. I had the realization that I couldn't think of one skit that didn't have something to do with Trump since before he was elected. I then knew why I had stopped watching SNL. They became so focused on making fun of Trump that they lost my viewership. The show seemed to be more about Trump than comedy. However, I thought it was good that SNL decided to finally change up their skits for once.
