GMO Labels? Finally?

This weekend I was browsing a few news sites I go such as The New York Times, NBC, The Vice and a few others when I came across the same topic a few times. The news story had shown up enough times that it peaked my interest. I had heard the term GMO before and knew it meant genetically modified organisms. I vaguely remembered reading an article in 4th grade about GMO's and how they are bad for us. However, I didn't remember much about GMO's so I decided to read the article and educate myself on the topic. I had never realized how much GMO's are in the food I eat until I read the article. I wanted to know why they were requiring them to be labelled. The term GMO's usually refers to plants and animals created by altering genes with laboratory techniques in ways that conventional forms of breeding can’t, often by inserting genetic material from one species into another. According to the article, "The United States Department of Agriculture has proposed new guidelines for labeling foods that contain genetically modified ingredients. Food makers would be required by federal law to use the labels, starting in 2020." I can understand how people would want to know what is put in their food however, if there are no known harmful causes of GMO's what could be wrong with them? In my opinion as long as the GMO's are being regulated by some other group or person than the growers that is knowledgable in this field I am fine with GMO's being in my food.

Kim Kardahshian Meets Trump?

This week in the news I saw something I never once thought I would see, at least not where and at the time. Kim Kardashian meeting with Donald Trump in the White House? While it may sound crazy, it is true. So, what was she there to talk about with Donald Trump? After all, it's not every day a celebrity widely known for her sex-tape get's to meet the president. According to several news outlets she was there    to grant clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old great-grandmother who is serving a life sentence in a federal pen for a first-time, nonviolent drug offense. While this may seem important, it isn't hard to imagine there are several other cases like this. Why has Mrs. Kardashian been allowed to have a meeting with our president about this? Shouldn't he be focusing on other important issues right now? Who knows? I'm not the president.

HGTV: Flipping Houses

HGTV is often watched by my parents on the weekend when they are not bogged down by any work they might have. They turn on the tv and switch to channel 746. Usually no matter what they always find it entertaining. They have been doing this years. After all this time I decided to ask myself a simple qu estion: Why do they like this show so much? The answer came to me as quickly as the question did. In other words, your renovations might take weeks or months  while Chip and Joanna's Gaines home makeover requires less than an hour of your time. And in the end it looks  perfect , unlike what  you  may have experienced. This especially seems relevant to my life due to how much my parents have renovated our houses over the years. 6 months can seem like one hour, which only goes to show that to humanity time is one of the most valuable resources.

Blog Post: Rapture

Rapture has become one of my favorite TV shows of all time on Netflix, technically in general due to how little I watch TV. The description of the show according to Netflix is: " In their own words, hip-hop stars describe what defines them as artists and the effect they've had on culture beyond music." Each episode provided unique insight into how each artist's life was different, their inspiration, where they came from and how that influenced their life. This gave me insight specifically into the fight against racism. Many rappers lives were affected by their upbringing in a time where tensions were high, in some events such as the Los Angeles riots as well as many shootings. I was always aware that music and slavery and the fight against of racism were so interconnected. My perspective has changed. Music is not just an instrument to make people want to dance, it has been and will continue to be used to spread messages to millions of people all around the world. Perh...
