This weekend my mom and I went to the movie theaters to see a movie called 3 Billboards in Ebbing Missouri. Mildred Hayes, a hard-nosed mother is seeking justice for her murdered daughter. With no arrests after seven months, Mildred puts up three roadside signs to goad Ebbing police chief into action. But the law - and especially Sam Rockwell's hot-headed deputy - don't take kindly to the provocation. And the townsfolk are on their side. But Mildred doesn't care about ruffling a few feathers. In fact, she's happy to pluck the whole bird. The movie contained several controversial topics such as: racism, homophobia and violence. They seemed to be making a point about the lack of action to serve justice to those who need it. I am not as aware of the climate between the police and the African American community due to the fact that I am white. This movie made me realize that everyone's life is affected by this relationship. This movie wasn't just a piece of fiction about a town somewhere in Ebbing, Missouri, it was a portrayal of the injustices and inequality in America's justice system. Our society is corrupt with these problems. The movie showed just how much had to be done to try to get justice. This made me realize how deeply rooted these problems are in our society and how unwilling society is to change. I can only hope for the betterment of our society that the problems we face today are less of a problem in the future than they are now.

This past year in Mr. Starace's Critical Thinking Class we have watched three films: The Persuaders, Merchants of Cool and Missrepresentation. These films clearly portrayed the same thing: media's effect on everyone. In the documentary Missrepresentation, we were shown how media breaks through the barriers we have put up in order to try to block out most of the media we have today. They use violence and over sexualize nearly everything we watch in order to get us to absorb what were watching. This past weekend I was watching the trailer for the movie Deadpool 2. While the movie may have been incredibly explicit and rated R for a multitude of reasons, I noticed some things in the movie that I can relate to this movie. In the one scene of her shown in the trailer she was seen sitting at home as a housewife waiting for Deadpool to get home. She is seen as this impatient, annoying housewife who is not doing anything. This is harmful to women as it portrays a false image of what wom...
